Chrimbo limbo...now's a good time to sort my expenses out

Christmas seems to have come and gone in a flash, wow all the planning and whosh gone till next year. If you are anything like me, you might be thinking about the money you've spent and the expenses that you have coming next year. The news is all doom and gloom, Omicron, rising inflation, food prices going up and not to mention the energy prices going up a lot according to the front page of todays papers (28th Dec. 2021) - maybe doubling. Of course the smiles on the faces of who got the presents is priceless, I still have to pay for it.

So I have been using the time during the Chrimbo limbo to see what can I can do. I thought maybe a wood burner but that's an expense I can't afford and I don't think it will fit or even if it's environmentally friendly and do I want to be getting logs from outside, no. I have been looking at the energy prices and the fixed rates are massively high, so I am sticking to a SVR (Standard Variable Tariff) which is capped by Ofgem till end of March. Utility Warehouse SVR aims to be up to 5% cheaper than the cap, it doesn't sound like a lot but it all adds up and why not have that bit of extra money in my pocket rather than someone else's.

They have a cashback card which I can use to offset my bill. Every time I spend a little bit goes towards my bill. I don't have to do anything other than use that card rather than one of my others. Sounds easy, it's prepay not a credit card so it's just my money that I out on it and they give me some of it back. Between 1% to 7% depending on where I shop and if I shop online and lets face it who doesn't now days then there are about 2000 shops where I can also get cashback. It doesn't sound like a lot but who doesn't want a few quid off their bill at the end of the month for doing nothing.
